Selecting a Photographer - Things That You Should Consider When Booking a Photographer.
Book the photographer early.... just like the wedding venue and reception, the photographer may be booked up to 18 months in advance for the most popular times of year! Do not leave it too late as you may be disapointed that you could not obtain the services of the photographer of your choice!

The 'WWW' makes it easy to find a multitude of photographers and see many examples of photos, but you should visit a mumber of photographers to see physical examples of their work and albums. If you can not visit them, ask if they can visit you at your home. You can compare styles, quality and value and discuss what you require for your wedding photography.

When you commission a photographer you will be probably be concerned about the price they ask and what you get for your money, these are all important things to consider! But you should and need to ask about the experience of the photographer. Do they have any professional photographic qualifications? Have they passed any professional photographic body qualifications. Do they have insurance for public and product liability?

Always ask to view a number of completed wedding album rather than a compilation of the photographer's favourite images.

Ensure that the photographer you meet and discuss your wedding photography with is the actual person taking the photos.

Book someone that you both feel happy with and who you think will give you the best service on the day.

If you do have any special shots - ones you've seen in a magazine, or on a website, by all means show them to your prospective photographer so they know what photographic coverage you are looking for on your big day. However, don't pin down the photographer too tightly or you'll destroy the spontaneity and creativity they have to offer you. However, remember that setting up certain shots will take time, you must therefore be able to give this time to the photographer !

Do not pay a full fee payment before any photographs have been taken. A final payment should only be made when the finished product is collected or delivered.

Make sure the album prints are on proper photographic paper (inkjet prints do not have the same life span).

Does the photographer give you the paying customer the image files after completion of the work? Do they expect you to pay additional money to obtain the images which you have already paid for! Will there be hidden additional costs?

Check to see if the photographer has an online printing facility with reasonable prices. The best persons to judge a photographer’s ability to produce your wedding photographs is you! Do not leave this task to another family member as you may be disappointed by their decision.

Make sure to look at any reviews that clients have made about the photographer and the service they provided.

Do not book on price alone, you get what you pay for!
